"A candle is a small thing. But one candle can light another.  And see how its own light increases, as the candle gives it flame to the other.  You are such a light." ~ Moshe Davis

At Beth Shalom, members and guests of all ages can engage, forge new friendships, and strengthen existing ones through a variety of social, ritual, and educational events. Below, we've highlighted just a few of our current clubs and opportunities, but please make sure to check our calendar frequently for an updated listing of our events. If you wish to learn more, please reach out by emailing the office.

Social Events

The Beth Shalom Social Committee creates, plans, and organizes a variety of events. Their work is an integral part of creating a fun, engaging, and dynamic community here at Beth Shalom. Events have included family Hanukkah and Purim parties, Got Culture, Beth Shalom Night Out, and family game nights. We have brought back one of our most talked about events - Shabbaton, our weekend retreat, during which we connect and engage with each other and our world through games, water and nature activities, and services.

Sisterhood

Our Beth Shalom Sisterhood promotes a sense of Jewish community, fellowship and camaraderie among women. All Beth Shalom members who identify as women are automatically members of the Sisterhood. In addition to planning regular social gatherings, this group holds fundraising activities to support temple programs, brings speakers and discussions of interest to our community, and manages the temple gift shop. Beth Shalom Sisterhood also collaborates with Sisterhoods from other temples and with the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh to bring events to the larger community.

Men's Club

Our Beth Shalom Men’s Club is a social organization for men who join together in friendship and programs to benefit the Beth Shalom community and beyond. Through social activities and tzedakah, the Men's Club encourages the growth of each individual as a vital and important member of our congregation.

They invite all members to gather for their regular Sunday morning breakfasts that feature guest speakers, lively discussions, fellowship, and great food.  They also host family activities that include sports, picnics, and dinners. The Men’s Club supports our Beth Shalom community through volunteer efforts and fundraising. The Men's Club strives to bring meaning into action by encouraging participation and involvement.

Choir

Music is an important part of Beth Shalom life, and we encourage all to participate in the singing that occurs at services and other events. The choir welcomes children, teens, and adults of all musical abilities and talents, as we create connections and build community through joyful music. You do not need to try out - we have a place for you if you wish!

Book Club

The Beth Shalom Book Club meets the first Friday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the flex space. We welcome everyone for a friendly discussion of current Jewish-themed fiction and non-fiction books. Book Club members help select the books we'll be reading and volunteer to lead the discussions. Come join us!
