From the President’s Desk

Jerry Lustig

December 2009

Dan Gershkowitz’s departure to Houston will be a loss for Beth Shalom and we will all miss him. I wish him professional success and a joyful family life in his new location. Dan’s resignation was submitted effective Nov 1, 2009 and your board had to come together with a transition plan that will ensure the board maintains a high level of service to the congregation. The plan we agreed upon will allow us to maintain our levels of service and deliver a full list of candidates for our June 2010 annual meeting/elections.

As you have read in our communications the following actions will take place:

  1. I will assume the Interim President Position until Larry Ginsburg feels he is ready to take the President position (with board concurrence). Larry will be your incoming President in July 2010 at the latest.
  2. Linda Ellentuck will assume the Interim Treasurer Position immediately.
  3. A Nominations Committee will be formed immediately to evaluate candidates for a new President Elect and deliver a full slate of candidates for board approval.

You can also help by volunteering to participate in a By-Laws Committee over the coming months to review our current structure and draft recommendations for Board approval and a Congregational Vote in the June 2010 annual meeting. We will establish the Committee in January so if you want to volunteer send your name to the office before Dec 31, 2009. Our Committee will be comprised of a Chair and four volunteers. If you have any suggestions for By-Laws modifications please submit your revisions to the office in writing by Feb 28, 2010 to allow time for review and discussion.

On a personal note I look forward to working with your Board over the coming months to help make the 2009-10 year one in which Beth Shalom continues to move forward and put together plans for our next challenges such as Building Expansion.
